The people of Pakistan much aware about the fatal diseases as like HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-C, Polio, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria but less attentive and careless. There is need of awareness to raise sense of responsibility and precautionary measures to fight against the above mentioned diseases. By mobilizing the people, above diseases could be reduced through adopting precautionary measures and rising sense of responsibility.
The state of basic health facilities in our country is not too good. There are many areas in downtrodden and slum urban and rural areas where lack of basic health facilities observed. Communities are still facing problem of clean drinking water, sanitation and sewerage system, disposal of solid wastage management, cleanliness on roads and streets and awareness regarding epidemic diseases.
The HDS is struggling for the awareness and provision of basic health facilities to local communities since its inception. Some health related activities are as under:
Safe Motherhood Program
The situation of maternal, newborn and child health in Pakistan is one of the poorest in South Asia. Despite some improvements in the 1990s, Pakistan has lagged behind many of it neighbors in terms of health and population outcomes. The infant mortality rate of 78 per 1000 live births and a recently calculated maternal mortality rate of 276 per 100,000 live births are both higher than other neighboring South Asian countries. Very high fertility rates, a high unmet need for family planning and very low rates of skilled birth attendance are some of the fundamental underlying causes for the poor health of women and children in Pakistan. There are numerous additional factors affecting this situation, including political instability, poor governance, rising religious conservatism and militancy, a vastly under-resourced public social sector, and a poorly functioning public sector health service delivery system at the district level.
HDS is striving for community education for mothers & new born health with support of different organization.
HIV/AIDS Awareness & Training
One of the most successful projects we have delivered so far is the HIV/AIDS campaign. A well reputed Islamabad based NGO AMAL Human Development Network provided us a ToT training on HIV/AIDS training that definitely polished our skills, knowledge and information which we delivered the same in our own locality. We arranged workshops on HIV/AIDS awareness, where participants invited from different walks of life were given 3 days extensive training and they were requested to preach and spread the awareness on HIV/AIDS which inflicted due to homosexuality, prostitution, reuse of syringes, infected blood transfusion. All the trainees were delivered training to be cautious regarding HIV/AIDS and also to aware their surroundings, families and friends regarding its hazards.
